APHIDS
There are many different species of Aphids. In Utah aphids are best known for two things:
- Binding themselves to the young growth on rose plants and infest trees and other shrubs.
- Destroying wheat, barley and other oats.
You man nor be growing wheat or barley in your front yard, but more than likely you have or know someone who has roses, trees and shrubs on their landscape. Some of the warning signs of aphids are dark, curling leaves or dripping a sticky substance. The population of aphids in your yard can be controlled by proper insecticide application intervals, possibly throughout the season.
BOX ELDER BUGS
These nuisance pests are not harmful to your landscape, but can be very annoying. In Utah box elder bugs are most prevalent in the spring and the fall. You can begin seeing them as early as February to begin sunning themselves and they reproduce quickly in large numbers. The best way to get rid of these insects inside is to sweep them up and throw them away, but outside there are insecticides that can permeate their tough shells. Treatments are required throughout the season as needed to the host plant and the exterior of your structure to prevent them nesting in your walls.
Please see General Pest Control for detailed program and one-time treatment options or other service programs.
